Radioiodine Therapy For Thyroid Cancer

Radioactive Iodine, also known as I-131, is a form of radiation therapy used to treat thyroid cancer. This type of radiotherapy is called internal radiotherapy. According to the American Cancer Society, “this treatment can be used to destroy (ablate) any thyroid tissue not removed by surgery or to treat thyroid cancer that has spread to lymph nodes and other parts of the body.”
