I-131 Treatment For Thyroid Cancer
I-131, also known as radioiodine or sodium iodine i-131, is a radioactive iodine used to treat forms of thyroid cancer. This iodine is ingested and then absorbed into the bloodstream via the GI tract. The thyroid gland will pick it up and be killed off by the iodine. The destruction of the gland’s tissue will also kill off the cancer cells. Whatever radioiodine that hasn’t been absorbed will be excreted from the body through urine, sweat, saliva and tears.

Radioactive Iodine, also known as I-131, is a form of radiation therapy used to treat thyroid cancer. This type of radiotherapy is called internal radiotherapy.
